Designing Your New Backyard

It can be overwhelming to start planning out your new dream backyard, trying to include all of the elements you want and not regret any of your design choices later on. Here is our list of design elements that will take your space to the next level.

  1. Outdoor living area

  2. Shade structure

  3. Water features

  4. Fire elements

  5. Garden

  6. Outdoor kitchen / grilling area

Functionality

When choosing what elements to include in your space, consider your priorities and things that take the most space first. In a typical backyard the largest element is usually grass. Think about what you need the most in your yard. Could a large patio be more useful when hosting family and friends?

Construction Limitations

It’s likely impossible to fit everything you want in your backyard whether you are constrained by space or budget. Prioritize your favorite elements and fit them into your space first. Don’t forget to check for HOA restrictions when considering improvements to your property. The worst thing that could happen after putting lots of work into your yard is being told that you can’t have it. Get written approval of your design before starting the work.

Total Value

When making design decisions, consider the impact to your property value whether you are considering selling in the future or not. Some elements could be difficult to remove and you don’t want to regret your design decisions down the road. A good design will provide additional functionality to everyone who uses the space and a lasting increase to the property value.
